Hello!

What a crazy year it has been! The idea for The Turquoise Teacher has been in the works for almost two years now! Why haven’t I gotten around to getting all the pieces in line? Life got in the way. Honestly. We all have wonderful ideas, but sometimes we don’t have enough time. Well, we never have enough time. However, as the dust of 2016 settles, I am making the time because this is something that I feel will help make our kiddos stronger. Collaboration between teachers is the best way to help our babies get to where they need to be. We expect our students to be citizens in the 21st century so we must do the same! Welcome to my blog and adventure in education.  Check out my TPT store as well.

A little more about myself. I am a Colorado girl living in the heart of horse country of Northern Texas. My husband and I moved out of the city and into the country this summer. Let me tell you, I am falling in love with living in Texas after this move. I never thought that I would. I am realizing that I am more of a small community fan. I grew up in a small town and I love that we are back in one. This is making living in a different state a lot better. I love that I can sit on my couch and watch my horses in the front yard. I also love that I am teaching in a small town. So many things that made living in Texas difficult for me changed this summer.

With this change, we made a lot of hard decisions in the last year. It all started with my husband and I sold our house on our own. Once our house sold, we started looking for the next place we would call home. A series of events took place (trust me, a long, painful, scary, sad, happy series) and we found our property. It had more than we could have ever hoped for. The hard part, I would be over an hour and 15 minutes (and 50 miles one way) from my old job IF the traffic is light. I had to make a decision and ended up taking a new job closer to home. I LOVED 5th grade. I loved the standards and what we taught. It was scary to move back to a lower grade. My first week was full of thinking to myself, they can’t do what?! However, I quickly fell in love with my little ones who greet me every morning with a hug. I wouldn’t change this move for the world.

I am so excited to join a community of educators with this new blog. I cannot wait to share and gain ideas, make new friends and learn along the way. Thank you for reading!
